Queen Anne’s County New Circuit CourthouseProject Physical CharacteristicsThe new circuit courthouse facility will be approximately 42,000 square feet on 2 levels located on an existing 1-acre site within the town of Centreville. Site amenities will include landscaping, hardscaping, site access, storm water management and all utilities and communication infrastructure including a fiber optic backbone. The building structure will be comprised of reinforced concrete, structural steel beams and columns and block walls with brick and limestone façade. The brick and limestone exterior was selected, by the Courthouse Citizens Committee, from 18 different options presented by the Architect. Texture and color for the brick and limestone façade was selected to complement and favor the existing surrounding buildings. The main entrance and front elevation are designed with a blend of brick and limestone to replicate the historic and charming character of the existing courthouse and the town of Centreville. The eagle emblem above the main entrance doors is artfully etched to exactly match the eagle emblem on the existing circuit courthouse building. The grounds of the new courthouse will be elegantly landscaped together with hardscape features including a fountain, benches and brick walkways. The new circuit courthouse will accommodate two full service courtrooms, one Masters Courtroom, a Family Service Center, and two detention areas with comprehensive security measures. Both the building and grounds will be in full compliance with ADA requirements and regulations. In addition, the mechanical and electrical systems are designed with diligent consideration to energy efficiency and environmental sensitivity. This new courthouse is replacing the existing courthouse that was built during the presidency of George Washington between 1792 and 1794, some 224 years ago.
