To commemorate the opening of the Blue Heron Driving Range the Queen Anne’s County Commissioners are inviting the public to attend a brief ribbon cutting ceremony at 1 p.m. June 13, followed by free games, prizes and light refreshments. The driving range is just south of the 18-hole Blue Heron Golf Course off of Rt. 8 on Kent Island. The property is owned by the county, and is protected from development by a Maryland Environmental Trust Easement. “The range is approximately 320 yards long and 110 yards wide and encompasses 12 acres,” said Golf Operations Manager Eric Beaufait. “The 25 Tee Boxes were raised 3 feet to make the targets easier to see.” He said, each range mat is equipped with rubber tees which can hold a regular tee so players can adjust the height. “There are 6 target areas: Red = 100 yards, Green = 125 yards, White = 150 yards, Yellow = 175 yards, Blue = 200 yards, Orange 250 yards.” Golfers can purchase tokens for the range machine at the Blue Heron Pro Shop and keep them in their car to use anytime. But on the afternoon of June 13, range fees will be waived to encourage the community to come out and celebrate the opening of this new feature. The Blue Heron Driving Range is open seven days a week from 7 a.m. until sunset.
