New Partnership between the
Queen Anne's County Department of Emergency Services and the
 Church Hill Volunteer Fire Department

Today a new pilot program started to better serve the citizens and visitors of Queen Anne's County. In a partnership between the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company and the Queen Anne's County Department of Emergency Services, Paramedic 500 was placed in service. Chief Aftung of the Department of Emergency Services and Chief Jester of the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company authorized the 60-day 8 AM to
5 PM trial program in an effort to maximize coverage and resource allocation.

On certain days as spelled out in the agreement, the program moves Paramedic 400 (currently stationed on Safety Drive in Centreville) to the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company, renaming it as Paramedic 500. This provides better paramedic unit coverage to the northwest section of Queen Anne's County.

Additional information may be obtained by contacting Chief Haas, EMS Chief for QACDES or EMS Director VanZant of the Church Hill Volunteer Fire Company.

County to test additional Emergency Notification System

Emergency Managers realize the need for additional means of warning our communities of imminent danger or the need to turn on radios, televisions or computers for information. Since its inception, we have relied on the Emergency Alert System. In recent years we have seen the addition of the Tri County Siren Alarm System. Now, in an attempt to keep pace with technology and offer yet another way of reaching out to our citizens, Queen Anne’s County is doing a trial of Blackboard Connect.

Blackboard Connect is a system that places phone calls to businesses and residents with the added capability to send emails and text messages. Public Safety officials can use the system to provide potentially life saving protective actions, warnings of imminent danger or any message related to the health, safety or well being of the County.

This system will be tested Saturday April 7, 2012 at 2:00 PM, two hours after the monthly Tri County Siren Alarm Test. We intend on placing phone calls to businesses and residents as well as sending text messages and emails to registered users.

For more information or to register your cell phone, VOIP phone or email address, please visit www.qac.org and click on the Blackboard connect tile.
