Queen Anne’s County Launches Short-Term Residential Rental Zoning Certificate Application
Queen Anne’s County Planning & Zoning is now accepting annual zoning certificate applications for short-term residential rentals. This new requirement follows the adoption of County Ordinance #24-09, which took effect on January 11, 2025.
A short-term residential rental is defined as the use and occupancy of a dwelling unit for a fee for less than 30 consecutive days through a hosting platform utilized by a transient occupant.
Under this new ordinance, all short-term residential rental owners must now obtain a zoning certificate each year. Applications can be completed online through the Citizen Self Service Portal or in person at the Planning & Zoning Office.
In addition, following the approval of a zoning certificate, property owners are required to register their short-term residential rental with the Queen Anne’s County Finance Office through the Queen Anne’s County Tax Portal to comply with room rental tax collection requirements. You can contact the Finance Office with questions regarding the tax portal at (410) 758-4064.
Details, forms, and application instructions are available on the County’s website at: https://qac.org/1762/Short-Term-Residential-Rental-Information.
Notifications and information will be mailed to current short-term rental property owners to assist with compliance.
