Delaware and Maryland Residents Staying Safe with New Smoke Alarms and Carbon Monoxide Detectors Compliments of Delmarva Power
Utility’s Emergency Services Partnership Program provides much needed devices for distribution to residents in need
WILMINGTON, Del. (Nov. 1, 2017) – Delmarva Power’s Emergency Services Partnership Program recently donated much needed fire safety alarms to the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association’s Wake Up Delaware program, the Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office, as well as carbon monoxide detectors to the City of Wilmington Fire Department. This is the 17th year Delmarva Power has donated these important life-saving devices.
“Delmarva Power’s Emergency Services Partnership Program has worked with Delaware and Maryland public safety agencies to raise fire safety awareness and empower residents to embrace proper fire safety practices,” said John J. Allen, Delmarva Power regional vice president. “We are once again proud to step up and provide these much needed devices that help ensure the safety of local residents and more importantly, save lives.”
The following organizations received alarms from Delmarva Power and will be distributing the devices to residents in need:
- Wake Up Delaware 500, 10-year long-life fire safety alarms
- The Maryland State Fire Marshal’s Office 1800, 10-year long-life fire safety alarms
- The City of Wilmington Fire Department 200 carbon monoxide alarms
“This has been a long-standing partnership with Delmarva Power and a valuable corporate donation that directly protects the lives of our residents,” said Brian Gerace, Maryland State Fire Marshal.
Lowe’s Home Improvement Warehouse provided the alarms to Delmarva Power at a reduced cost to help support this safety effort. Since 2000, Delmarva Power has donated 26,150 regular smoke alarms, 1,045 special-needs smoke alarms for the hearing impaired, and 2,700 carbon monoxide alarms to fire safety officials in Maryland and Delaware.
The Delmarva Power Emergency Services Partnership Program was developed more than ten years ago with area first responder organizations, whose personnel who work alongside Delmarva Power employees during storms and other emergencies. The program helps the group the group coordinate training, share best practices and even coordinate participation in charitable giving and volunteer activities.
