Sheriff Gary Hofmann Sworn in as President of the Maryland Sheriffs’ Association

September 24, 2025 - Sheriff Gary Hofmann of the Queen Anne’s County Office of the Sheriff was recently sworn in as the President of the Maryland Sheriffs' Association (MSA), representing all 23 elected sheriffs across Maryland. He succeeds past president Sheriff James DeWees of Carroll County, continuing a legacy of dedicated leadership within the association.

This critical position serves as a vital voice for communities, focusing on the needs and legislative concerns that affect law enforcement across the state. Sheriff Hofmann emphasized the importance of ensuring that deputies and staff have the representation and support they deserve.

“I am honored to serve as president for a second time, having previously held this role in 2011,” said Sheriff Hofmann. “I look forward to leading our association in the upcoming year, strengthening law enforcement across the state, advocating for resources for our deputies and staff, and collaborating with lawmakers to advance public safety.”

Sheriff Hofmann was sworn in by MACO President Commissioner Jack Wilson, with the presence of Commissioner Phil Dumenil, during the annual Professional Development Seminar hosted jointly by the Maryland Sheriffs’ Association and the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association held on September 10, 2025.
