The County Commissioners of Queen Anne’s County have officially proclaimed January 2026 as National Mentoring Month, recognizing the powerful and lasting impact mentors have on the lives of young people throughout the community.
National Mentoring Month honors the individuals who dedicate their time, guidance, and encouragement to help young people build confidence, resilience, and life skills. Mentors play a vital role in supporting youth as they navigate challenges, discover new opportunities, and envision their full potential.
As part of this recognition, the County Commissioners highlighted the life-changing work of Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Eastern Shore, whose mentoring programs, enrichment activities, and family support services serve youth across Queen Anne’s County. Through meaningful, consistent relationships, the organization helps young people feel seen, supported, and empowered to succeed.
“Mentoring is more than a program, it is a relationship that strengthens families, uplifts young people, and builds a brighter future for our community,” the proclamation states.
The County Commissioners encourage community leaders, educators, businesses, civic organizations, and residents to observe National Mentoring Month by learning more about mentoring opportunities and considering ways to support or participate in local mentoring efforts.
