In July 2002, the county partnered up with one of the volunteer companies, recognizing that although the call volume is relatively low in the northern part of the county, it can be challenging to make a timely response due to geographical challenges. That year, the members of the Sudlersville Volunteer Fire Department opened their doors to house the 1st county paramedic north of Centreville. Originally a paramedic chase unit, it was later replaced with a county-owned paramedic ambulance in 2008 where it still resides today.
