Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation Announces Mowbray Park Playground Replacement
The Queen Anne’s County Department of Parks and Recreation is moving forward with one of its major FY26 Capital Projects, the replacement of the Mowbray Park Playground.
The department has partnered with KOMPAN www.kompan.com to design and construct a new, state-of-the-art playground facility. The project will utilize the existing footprint while introducing major improvements, including poured-in-place surfacing to expand ADA compliant surfacing throughout most of the playground. The swing area will remain surfaced with engineered wood fiber.
The redesigned playground, spanning approximately 12,000 square feet, will feature:
- Fencing around the entire area
- Two shade structures
- Multiple bench styles
- Sensory communication boards
- Climbing structures
- A creative play design unlike any other in the county system
All playground equipment will now be located within one fenced area, consolidating the smaller play equipment adjacent to the pavilion into the new layout.
Parks and Recreation is also working in cooperation with Noah’s Perfect Playground https://chesapeakecharities.org/fund/noahs-perfect-playground/ to provide a dedicated space for children ages 6 months to 2 years old.
Construction is scheduled to begin Tuesday, October 14, 2025. Weather permitting, the project is anticipated to be completed by early summer 2026. During construction, the playground will remain closed to the public.
