Queen Anne’s County Leaders Join Juneteenth Celebration
County Administrator Recognized for Support of Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center

Queen Anne’s County Commissioners Chris Corchiarino and Jim Moran, along with County Administrator Todd Mohn, joined community members in celebrating Juneteenth at the annual festival hosted by the Kennard Alumni Association on June 14, 2025.

This year’s celebration, held at the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center in Centreville, brought together residents to honor the meaning of Juneteenth—commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the United States. The festival featured live performances, historical exhibits, local artisans, educational speakers, and opportunities for community reflection.

During the event, County Administrator Todd Mohn was presented with a “Helping Hand Recognition” by Clayton Washington, President of the Kennard Alumni Association. The award acknowledges Mohn’s longstanding support and contributions to the Kennard building and the organization’s mission to preserve and celebrate African American history and culture in Queen Anne’s County.

The celebration coincided with the Board of County Commissioners’ proclamation recognizing June 14, 2025, as Emancipation Recognition and Giving Day in Queen Anne’s County. The proclamation honors Juneteenth and encourages residents to reflect on the significance of freedom and the contributions of people of African descent to the community and the nation.

Queen Anne’s County is proud to support the Kennard Alumni Association and the continued work of the Kennard African American Cultural Heritage Center in promoting education, preservation, and community engagement. Learn more here https://kennardheritage.com/
