County News Posted on September 25, 2025

The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners welcomed the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) to Centreville as part of the statewide Consolidated Transportation Program (CTP) Tour. The annual meeting provided an opportunity to highlight the county’s transportation priorities and ongoing partnerships with the State.

During the session, county leaders emphasized the need for continued investment in projects critical to safety, mobility, and economic growth. Chief among the priorities is the advancement of the Chesapeake Bay Crossing Tier II NEPA process and planning for a future Bay Bridge crossing. Commissioners also stressed the importance of improvements to the MD 18 corridor between Castle Marina Road and Kent Narrows, which serves as the only alternative route to US 50/301 on Kent Island.

The discussion also included:

  • US 301 and MD 405 Intersection – A Town Hall was announced for October 20th at 6PM at Price Community Center, more info to come from State Highway Administration.
  • US 50 and MD 213 Interchange – A longstanding project to improve safety and access near Chesapeake College.
  • Pedestrian Overpass on Kent Island – A feasibility study is underway to connect the Cross Island Trail with the South Island Trail, with public meetings scheduled this fall.

In addition to county priorities, MDOT provided updates on active and planned projects, including the replacement of the US 301 northbound bridge over the Chester River, resurfacing improvements across the county.
