[ARCHIVED] Winter Wellness Wonderland Jan. 13th

WYE MILLS - Queen Anne’s County Dept. of Emergency Services is hosting their first Winter Wellness Wonderland on January 13, at Chesapeake College’s Health Professions & Athletics Center from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

This event includes a Community Blood Drive, Medication Take-Back & Disposal, Community Emergency Response Team Education, Healthy Blood Pressure Checks, Hands-Only CPR Training, Pet CPR Training, Heimlich Maneuver Training, Bleeding Control Training and a Teddy Bear Clinic which is designed to ease children’s medical fears.

Scott Haas, Director of QAC DES, said, “Our staff is always looking for new ways to reach our community. As county employees, we have a wonderful program called Passport to Wellness, which incentivizes healthy living. It occurred to us that we could extend some of these healthy living tips to our community and hopefully teach some practical skills at the same time. We thought, what a better time than the New Year to promote some health and community education and Chesapeake College has graciously provided us with a perfect location.”

We are thankful to be partnering with several other agencies to make the event a success, said Haas. The Maryland Department of Health MidShore Opioid Misuse Prevention Program Coalition and the QAC Office of the Sheriff will be on site providing medication storage and disposal education, as well as Medication Take-Back. We hope that everyone will take a little time to do some New Year's cleaning of their medicine cabinets and bring in their no longer used or expired medicines for safe disposal.

Animal Welfare League staff will be on site with healthy living tips for our pets.

In addition to all of the education on site, Blood Bank of Delmarva's Blood Mobile will be there for those that want to start their New Year with a gift of health for someone else.

Go to https://donate.bbd.org/ to make an appointment to donate blood with sponsor code "DES" for the event.

“We hope that this will be an event that reaches all ages in the community,” said Haas. “And, we're so excited to have the opportunity to reach out to our community to embrace healthy living.”
