CENTREVILLE — Queen Anne’s County Administrator Gregg Todd officially has accepted a new position as Deputy Secretary of Operations for the Maryland Department of Health in Baltimore.
He announced his move at the opening of the county commissioners meeting Tuesday, Feb. 12. Todd, who has been at the post since January 2011, told the Record Observer that Todd Mohn, director of Public Works, will serve as the interim county administrator.
The County Commission will decide on a new administrator. For his part, Todd has recommended Mohn as the clear choice for the job. No replacement has been named yet for the director of Public Works.
Todd’s last official day will be Friday, March 15.
“I was looking for a new challenge and felt like it was a good time to make a move,” Todd said. “Serving Queen Anne’s County has been my absolute pleasure. My most poignant memories include the reorganization of county government after the 2010 election. We were faced with closing a $21 million budget deficit, and this took extensive cuts to staff at about 20 percent with other reductions.”
Todd also said it was an incredibly difficult time, but through the efforts of the commissioners and staff, the county was able to go from a negative watch by the bond rating agencies to AAA with both S&P and Fitch.
A project Todd was particularly proud of was the initiating of the Southern Kent Island Sewer Project. “This was a project that no one thought would ever go, and we were able to get state funding from both grants and loans and the approvals necessary, from commissioners and state officials, to make it a reality,” said Todd.
