“The teams will be staying at Kent Narrows which gives us a great opportunity to see the 44 teams and their cars,” said County Commission President James Moran.
This ninth season of the Fireball Run is called Space Race, and includes four teams of astronauts with 40 other driving teams in a Space Race themed adventure, which ends in Cocoa Beach, Fla., home of the Kennedy Space Center.
The race kicks off in Hartford CT, on September 25 and teams will come to Queen Anne’s County for two days before continuing their journey down the East Coast as they compete in a legendary 8 day, 2,000 mile life-sized trivia pursuit game.
Fireball Run is filmed in real time, in front of spectators. It is a life-sized trivia game and America serves as the game board. It is also billed as the Race to Recover America’s Missing Children because each team is assigned a different missing child from the region and is given flyers of the child which they must widely distribute.
“To score and win teams solve trivia based on brands, places, or points of interest. When solved they must accomplish a larger than life task. The activities range from physical challenges to extremely rare, epic, and life-changing moments,” according to the show’s production team. “All while aiding to recover America’s Missing Children. Fireball Run has aided in the unprecedented recovery of 44 missing children as of 2015.”
Child Rescue Network is the official charity of the Fireball Run. “With 1 in 6 missing children located because someone sees a picture, the ability to disseminate 40,000 flyers provides a wonderful opportunity to bring children home. The awareness raised is phenomenal and helps people understand that over 2,100 kids are reported missing every single day in the United States,” according to their website.
Commissioner Robert Buckey said, “While this event is going to be good for economic development and tourism, I am particularly happy that Queen Anne’s County can help play a role in the awareness campaign to help with missing children.”
Fireball Run, an online series, is available on GooglePlay, Roku, AmazonfireTV, SmartTV, NEO-TV, Chromecast and online at www.fireballrun.com.
Commissioner Paul Comfort said, "This is an exciting opportunity to showcase our county's tourism treasures to an international audience in the fast growing media arena of on-line television."
After leaving Queen Anne’s County the teams will continue their quests in Williamsburg, Va.; Topsail Island, N.C.; Florence, S.C.; and Liberty County, Ga, before concluding the contest at Florida’s Cocoa Beach on October 3.
