[ARCHIVED] New Pet Boarding Retreat Coming to Last Lot in Matapeake Industrial Park

The sixth and final lot in Matapeake Industrial Park has been transferred from the State to Queen Anne’s County and is being sold to a couple that have many years’ experience owning and operating a top-notch boarding kennel.
The business park sits on land that used house the old Bay Model building in Stevensville, on Route 8.

County Commissioner James Moran said, “The property that the six commercial lots reside on, had been government owned for decades and therefore off of the county property tax rolls. Currently, the county collects in excess of $66,000 in property tax revenue yearly from the professional park and the development of this final lot, Lot 1, will increase county revenue.”
On June 20, the Maryland Board of Public Works approved the transfer of ownership of Lot 1 and Lot 2 (which will remain open space) from the state to Queen Anne’s County. “The Maryland Department of General Services was instrumental in getting this accomplished,” said Todd.
Audrey and Kurt Reichardt, owners of Dogwood Acres Pet Retreat in Davidsonville, since 1997, are under contract with the county to construct a new facility at Matapeake Industrial Park. With the state’s approval, this contract can now go forward.

County Commissioner Mark Anderson said, “This is a perfect match-up for a convenient and readily accessible dog care facility for our citizens, particularly our commuter community. It will provide for increasing business for existing grooming operations, vet visits, overnight lodging, and opportunities for independent dog walkers and full and part-time kennel employees. My thanks for the Maryland Department of General Services’ cooperation and the good decision by the Maryland Board of Public Works.  This is a win all the way around.”
Audrey Reichardt said, “Our new facility will be called Dogwood Acres Kent Island and will have everything our Davidson location has.” That list includes a doggie water park, luxury suites, and live feed of the various dog playgrounds on their website.
