[ARCHIVED] Nov. 3rd is the 5th Annual QAC Make A Difference Day

Make a Difference Day

This year’s event will be held at Sudlersville Middle School, located at 600 Charles Street in Sudlersville and will take place on Saturday, November 3, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“As in the past we will have two dental vans from Robert Mantoni, Mobile Dentist. Local dentists, Jonathan T. Soistman from Soistman Family Dentistry and Associates along with Dr. James Pochran of Chesapeake Dental will be donating their services free of charge. This is a popular event so if you intend on having any dental work completed, please plan on arriving by 9 a.m.,” said Candice Darling, who even after retiring from the county7 continues to volunteer her time organizing and promoting this important event.

Darling said there will also be two hairdressers on site this year and Chesapeake Hearing will provide hearing screenings while the Lion’s Club will conduct eye exams.
Representatives from the QAC Health Department and Social Services will be on hand. Guests can apply for food stamps, the WIC program, receive a flu shot, apply for birth certificates and a variety of services offered by the departments.
“This year we are very pleased to have John Walden from Queen Anne’s County Library,” said Darling. “He will be available to assist with applying for social security cards online. Members from area shelters will be on hand to discuss housing options.

The NAACP is working with Pro Bono to provide expungement assistance. Please bring any court documents, charges/case numbers/dispositions and you will have the opportunity to talk one-on-one with an attorney for free.

Lunch will be provided and this year, in addition to warm coats, toiletries and baby items, we will have donations from the Maryland Food Bank.

As in the past, this event is free to residents of Queen Anne’s County who are homeless or at risk of being homeless. To better serve you, please bring all personal identification, birth certificates, social security cards, W-2, DD-214 or other pertinent documentation in obtaining services.

This event is made possible due to a grant from the MD Department of Health and Community Services as well as Choptank and Delmarva Electric, the May Foundation and the generosity of our donors.
If you would like to volunteer, donate goods or provide services or for more information please contact: Jone Taylor, (410) 758-8000 or jone.taylor@maryland.gov or Candice Darling (410) 490-0929 or cdarling03@gmail.com.
