ACROSS THE BAY 10K TO OFFER VIRTUAL RUN IN 2019 DUE TO PROJECTS ON CHESAPEAKE BAY BRIDGE
Event planning underway with a return in its original format in 2020
TAMPA, Fla. / ANNAPOLIS, Md. (April 3, 2019) – It was announced today that due to ongoing maintenance projects on the William Preston Lane Jr. (Bay) Bridge, the 2019 Across the Bay 10K will be offered as a virtual run. Planning for the event to return to its original format in 2020 is currently underway.
With a large portion of the Across the Bay 10K course being affected by these projects, it was determined that alternative dates and routes that would give athletes an equal experience was not available.
“Discussions will continue with the Maryland Transportation Authority about hosting the event on the bridge in 2020,” said Keats McGonigal, Senior Regional Director for IRONMAN. “We look forward to potential future events where we can partner to create a memorable experience for locals as well as people who come from all over the country to enjoy crossing this iconic bridge on foot.”
