QAC Commissioners Proclaim Oct 6 as Girl Scout Caroline Hazuda Day

Queen Anne’s County Commissioners proclaimed October 6, 2020 as “Girl Scout Caroline Hazuda Day” to recognize Caroline for demonstrating her leadership and love for her community and for her extraordinary effort to save lives. Caroline’s project, “The Centreville Heartbeat Initiative” received the Girl Scouts Gold Award and the Maryland Institute for Emergency Medical Service Systems (MIEMSS) The Right Care When it Counts award.

In 2019 Caroline pursued her Girl Scouting Gold Award, the highest rank in Girl Scouting by raising funds and community awareness to install two Automated External Defibrillators (AED) at St. Pauls’s Episcopal Church and White Marsh Park. She also held a friends and family CPR workshop that included the church parishioners at St. Paul’s and referees and coaches from Queen Anne’s County Parks and Recreation Association.

Caroline’s project was also submitted to MIEMSS for the Right Care When it Counts award for Maryland youth that have demonstrated steps to take in an emergency or ways to better prepare for an emergency. On October 6, 2020 representatives from MIEMSS came to Centreville to present Caroline with her award.

Assistant Chief of Special Operations, Lori Morris was Caroline’s project advisor throughout the year long process. Caroline also partnered with Nancy Scozzari, Chief Parks and Resource Planner and Kevin Brenner, owner of Keep the Beat CPR to complete her project. The Department of Emergency Services employees also assisted in organizing CPR training which trained the over 100 members of the public in CPR and the use of AEDs.

Queen Anne’s County Commissioners recognize Caroline for her commitment and dedication to the community and for setting such a fine example for younger individuals to follow and wish her the best of luck, happiness and success in all her endeavors.
