50th Anniversary of the National Senior Nutrition Program
The National Senior Nutrition Program was established in 1972, by the Older Americans Act of 1965, as amended. From its inception, the Program has reliably funded nutrition services for older adults in the state of Maryland and throughout the nation, for the past 50 years;
Local senior nutrition programs serve as hubs for older adults to access nutritious meals, nutrition counseling, nutrition education, and other vital services that strengthen social connections, promote health and well being, and thwart malnutrition of older adults in the state of Maryland and throughout the nation;
The U.S. Administration for Community Living and The Maryland Department of Aging encourage innovative approaches to nutrition that support older adult efforts to live independently and educate communities about nutrition services;
The Senior Nutrition Program is an integral part of Queen Anne’s County and its efforts to provide nutrition and supportive services to older residents of the county, especially those of the greatest social and economic need, the most frail and vulnerable, those with chronic health conditions, and those experiencing social isolation;
Queen Anne's County Area Agency on Aging continues to have a positive impact on its communities by promoting optimal nutrition, improving the health and enhancing the quality of life of older adults;
Now, therefore, The Maryland Department of Aging recognizes the month of March 2022 as the 50th Anniversary of the National Senior Nutrition Program. We urge every resident to recognize older adults and the people who support them through nutrition services as essential contributors to the strength of all communities of Queen Anne’s County. Please join the U.S. Administration of Community Living and The Maryland Department of Aging in celebrating this milestone 50th anniversary.
