Kent Island High School Synthetic Running Track Complete

A collaborative effort between Queen Anne’s County Board of Education, Commissioners, Parks & Recreation, and Public Works successfully coordinated the rapid construction of the new state of the art synthetic running track for the Kent Island High School (KIHS) community.

The running track was more than 20 years old and in need of replacement due to above average wear and tear including cracks in the underlying asphalt.  Track and Field Coach, Justin Holland, was instrumental in the final design of the new track.  Mr. Holland states, “KIHS track and field team boasts current and future state champions, and they will now be able to practice on a state of the art track. The track and field team has been consistently successful, and the new track will be greatly appreciated.”

Construction began in August of 2022 and was ready just a month later, by ATC Corp. of Baltimore, Maryland, a company specializing in sporting surfaces for over 70 years.  ATC won the bid process and generously discounted their original bid to align with the project budget.  ATC’s pricing and commitment to swift construction enabled completion of the track for the 2022-23 season.

The Kent Island High School Stadium is located at 900 Love Point Road in Stevensville, Maryland.   The school is excited to show off the new track at upcoming track and field events and is pleased to now have the ability to host Maryland Track and Field Regional Championships.  A new track is similarly proposed for construction at the Queen Anne’s County High School in Centreville in Summer 2023.

An official ribbon cutting ceremony will take place prior to the track and field season in the Spring.
