In 1922, the National Fire Protection Association founded the National Fire Prevention Week to take place the week of October 9th, commemorating the date of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871. This year’s theme for Fire Protection Week is kitchen fire hazards. Cooking remains the leading cause of fires and home fire injuries in the United States. Queen Anne’s County Volunteer Fire Departments reminds all residents “Cooking safety starts with YOU. Pay attention to fire prevention”
The Queen Anne’s County Commissioners urge all the people of Queen Anne’s County to check their kitchens for fire hazards and use safe cooking practices, and to support the many public safety activities and efforts of Queen Anne’s County’s volunteer fire and emergency services.
