Queen Anne’s County Government Welcomes John Davis as Information Security Officer

Queen Anne’s County announces John Davis as the counties first Information Security Officer within the Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Department. In this new position, John will play a pivotal role in the county’s digital defenses and fostering a proactive cybersecurity program.

As Information Security Officer, John Davis will serve as a member of the leadership team within the ICT Department, reporting directly to the Director of Information and Communications Technology, Brian Riley. His responsibilities will include leading strategic security planning, developing and implementing security strategies and plans, overseeing enforcement of security policies, and assessing security risks associated with county practices.

With over 25 years of leadership experience in technology, John brings a wealth of expertise to his new role. Before joining Queen Anne’s County Government, he served as the Program Director overseeing the integration of AVEVA’s acquisition of OSIsoft, two leaders in engineering and industrial software. His professional journey also includes senior positions at high-tech companies such as General Electric, Nasdaq, and VMware.

"We are excited to welcome John Davis to the Queen Anne’s County Government team," said Brian Riley, Director of Queen Anne’s County Information and Communications Technology Department. "John’s extensive background in enterprise architecture, digital transformation, and Governance, Risk, and Compliance (GRC) uniquely positions him to lead our efforts in enhancing cybersecurity and ensuring the integrity of our information systems."

In his previous roles, John has demonstrated a remarkable ability to drive transformative initiatives and deliver innovative solutions. Notably, as a Director at VMware, he established and managed both a formal Security and GRC function, preparing the company for its initial public offering.

"As the new Information Security Officer for QAC, I am committed to fortifying our organization’s digital defenses and cultivating a culture of proactive cybersecurity," said John Davis. "My vision is to integrate cutting-edge technologies, implement robust policies, and foster a collaborative approach across departments to safeguard our valuable assets and ensure the trust of our stakeholders in an ever-evolving digital landscape."

John Davis holds a degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Phoenix and has obtained certifications in ITIL, Scrum, and Oracle EBS & iStore Essentials, among others. He is an active member of industry organizations such as PMI, ITSMF, and ISACA.

Originally from Catonsville, MD, John recently relocated from California to be closer to his family in St. Michaels. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his wife Linda and engaging in outdoor activities like walking, hiking, and biking. John’s son Josh works for Homeland Security in Maryland, while his daughter is a Theater Director for an Off-Broadway group in New York.
