Queen Anne's County Seeks Community Input on Bloomfield Preservation Plan
Queen Anne’s County invites community members to participate in an online survey to provide valuable input on the future of Bloomfield, a historic farmhouse located within White Marsh Park. The survey is part of the public outreach component of the Preservation Plan for the restoration and rehabilitation of Bloomfield, which is being developed by Barton Ross & Partners, LLC., Architects.
Bloomfield, an eighteenth-century building located at 200 Bloomfield Lane, was acquired using funds from the Maryland Department of Natural Resources’ Program Open Space. Under the management of the County’s Department of Parks and Recreation, White Marsh Park has been enhanced with ballfields, parking, lighting, restroom facilities, a fishing pond, and a disc golf course. Additionally, the park features three miles of unpaved trails winding through woods and meadows.
The County’s vision for Bloomfield has evolved, leading to the current initiative to develop a comprehensive Preservation Plan. This effort is supported by a grant from the Maryland Heritage Areas Authority and Stories of the Chesapeake Heritage Area.
The historic Bloomfield farmhouse, located at the end of a scenic driveway within White Marsh Park, has a rich history of development. Notable changes were made after photographs were taken in October 1916, including renovations that raised the house to two-and-one-half stories and applied stucco to the exterior. Despite these modifications, many original details of the interior and basic layout remain intact.
This online survey aims to engage the community in determining the best public use of the Bloomfield house and its surrounding grounds. Your feedback is crucial in shaping recommendations for the County Commissioners on how to re-envision this historic site for modern appreciation and use.
