County Commissioners Proclaim January is Human Trafficking Awareness Month in Queen Anne's County
Each year, nearly 25 million men, women, and children worldwide are trafficked and stripped of their freedom, dignity, and human rights. Since 2013, over 1,038 cases of child sex trafficking have been screened in Maryland, according to the UMD School of Social Work.
Human trafficking remains a critical issue on the Eastern Shore, where traffickers use violence, threats, and manipulation to force victims into commercial sex or involuntary labor. As one of the fastest-growing criminal industries globally, second only to drug trafficking, it devastates lives and communities.
Queen Anne’s County stands in solidarity with victims and is committed to raising awareness, fostering education, and encouraging collective action to fight this atrocity. By increasing public awareness and supporting anti-trafficking initiatives, we can restore hope and freedom to those impacted.
We urge everyone in our community to learn more, speak out, and join us in the fight against human trafficking. Together, we can make a difference.
