Queen Anne’s County Urges Residents, Visitors, and Travelers to Prepare for Impending Winter Storm
The Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services (DES) is advising all residents, visitors, and those traveling through the County to take immediate steps to prepare for an approaching winter storm that is expected to bring hazardous conditions, including snow accumulation, reduced visibility, and potentially dangerous travel conditions.
Forecasts indicate that the storm may significantly impact roadways, utilities, and normal daily activities. Snow-covered and icy roads can develop quickly, making travel difficult and, in some cases, unsafe. Power outages and delays in emergency response times are also possible during periods of severe weather.
“As this winter storm approaches, we urge all residents to take the time now to prepare and to stay informed as conditions change,” said Commissioner President Jim Moran. “Please monitor official updates from Queen Anne’s County and follow any instructions issued to help keep you and your family safe.”
DES strongly recommends the following actions to be taken now:
- Avoid unnecessary travel during the storm. If travel is unavoidable, ensure your vehicle is winter-ready, has a full tank of fuel, and is stocked with emergency supplies.
- Follow the Five-Day Plan by reviewing emergency preparedness guidance, including having enough food, water, medications, and essential supplies for several days.
- Check on family members, neighbors, and those with access or functional needs, especially older adults and individuals who may require additional assistance.
- Prepare your home by securing outdoor items, ensuring alternate heat sources are used safely, and having flashlights and extra batteries readily available.
- Stay informed by monitoring trusted weather sources and official County communications for updates before and during the storm.
Residents are reminded that emergency services will remain operational; however, response times may be longer during severe conditions. Calling 9-1-1 should be reserved for true emergencies.
The Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services will continue to monitor the situation closely and coordinate with local, state, and federal partners to support public safety. Additional information and updates will be shared as conditions warrant.
For preparedness tips and updates, residents are encouraged to follow Queen Anne’s County government communication channels.
