CENTREVILLE - On the evening of January 31, representatives from Queen Anne’s County Department of Emergency Services (DES) and Darren’s Pack headed to AI DuPont Hospital in Wilmington to host a Lego® and pizza party for the oncology unit.
Darren’s Pack is an organization started by Lauren and Derrick Leonard. Derrick is an employee of DES. The intent of the organization is to update friends and family on the prognosis of their son, Darren, who was diagnosed with cancer as an infant. Darren’s Pack has spearheaded numerous fundraising efforts to raise awareness about childhood cancer and bring joy to the children in the oncology unit at AI DuPont where their son is treated.
“The event was a very humbling experience and it was incredible to see how much it meant to the kids and their parents. I am very proud of our department and the staff who participated in collecting the Legos. I would encourage everyone to get involve with Darren’s Pack. The Pack is led by two very special people that I admire, Lauren and Derrick.” Says DES Director Scott Haas
Every year, DES partners with an organization to give back to the community. Over the years they have partnered with Toys for Tots, Adopt a Bear and Ronald McDonald House.
