Queen Anne’s County offers the ability to memorialize a deceased County resident through its Memorial Bench Program. Benches may be requested to be placed at most Queen Anne’s County Parks, until they reach maximum capacity. The Queen Anne’s County Department of Parks and Recreation shall approve all Memorial Bench Requests and may limit the number of benches at specific locations.
The estimated cost of each bench is $1700. Prices subject to change due to manufacturers cost. This cost includes: cost of the bench, dedication plaque, shipping, delivery to the selected park location and installation. Installation method is via in-ground mount, unless otherwise appropriate, noted and ordered as such. The 6’ length bench is manufactured by DuMor, Inc. of environmentally friendly recycled plastic wood. Frame members are constructed of powder coated steel. Plaques are fabricated of engraved brass and installed in routed bench back. Plaques may have up to four (4) lines of text comprised of no more than 40 characters (letters) per line.
All attempts shall be made to install benches within 6 weeks of receipt of bench from manufacturer. Due to seasonal weather considerations, benches may be held until that time when installation may be performed. Once the bench has been installed, the contact person will receive a letter stating that the bench has been installed with a map of the exact location .
Benches and surrounding area of installation are public property and decoration or embellishment of the bench and/or its surroundings is not permitted.
Regular maintenance of the area of installation shall be performed by Parks and Recreation staff. Maintenance of the bench itself shall also be conducted by staff for a period of 10 years minimum, after which the condition of the bench shall be evaluated, and if replacement is necessary, the contact person shall be notified and a cost share alternative may be proposed.
